Fumiyo Kagawa is undertaking a 2025-2026 consultancy to support UNICEF’s five Country Offices (COs) in Central Asia – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – in integrating climate change into formal education programming and into the support being offered to national governments.
Key tasks involve:
- developing a roadmap document for each CO defining concrete and strategic programming entry points for promoting climate change education, ensuring cross-sectorial linkages;
- providing support and guidance to teacher capacity development for delivering climate change education;
- supporting COs and governments in integrating climate change into ongoing curriculum reform;
- providing country specific support in terms of advocacy and technical assistance enabling the mainstreaming of climate change into relevant national policies.
This consultancy is part of UNICEF’s Climate Business Model Initiative (BMI) in Central Asia, targeted interventions focusing on making essential services that children rely on (including education) climate-resilient while making climate policies child-sensitive.
